Reaction to the political crisis in Rwanda

Friday, 5th March 2010

Nyamwasa's name is very prominent in the geo-military politics of the Great Lakes region, but it is very surprising how the international press has turned a deaf ear as the Nyamwasa saga, which definitely has implications for the geopolitics of the region, continues to unravel.

With two international arrest warrants (France, Spain and of course now, Rwanda) on his head, you would at least expect a paragraph or so to appear in the international media outlets, but it’s surprising that even the French media have not reported anything on this saga as of 3rd March 2010.

It is surprising how the arrest of [the late President] Habyarimana’s wife gets international coverage at around the same time a more influential general doesn’t even get a line.

Could it be the Kagame/Blair/Clinton PR machinations at work or the world has simply lost interest in the geo politics of the Great Lakes region? The so-called "African success story” seems to be disintegrating. Two [Rwandan] ambassadors defecting in a period of one week and possibly a third one fired shows some thing terribly wrong is going on in Kigali
